BIOGRAPHY :
Voltaire, whose real name was Francois Marie Arouet, was born November 21, 1694 in Paris (France) in a bourgeois family. He studied in the brilliant best and most expensive school in Paris at the Jesuit College Louis-le-Grand. In parallel to the strict and religious education of the Jesuits, Voltaire often licentious society of the Temple where he discovers a free spirit who wants to free itself from religion and the monarchy. In 1713, he abandoned his law studies and a brief stay in The Hague where he is secretary of the embassy, but an affair with a young Huguenot returns to Paris. There, he decided to devote his life to writing. In 1717 he was interned in the Bastille for verses describing the incestuous relationship of the Regent.

During the eleven months of his internment, he finished writing the tragedy of Oedipus, which is experiencing tremendous success in 1718. It was then that he chose his pseudonym, which is simply an anagram of Arouet L (e) J (eune) (the letters U and V, J and I spelled the way this time). In 1726, he opposed the Chevalier de Rohan-Chabot and made another trip to the Bastille. On leaving prison, Voltaire must exile for three years in England before making his return to Paris society in 1729. It shines through his talent as a singer delivering beautiful pieces "Brutus" in 1730, "Zaire" in 1732, "Le Mondain" in 1736, "Muhammad" in 1742, "Merope" in 1743. This talent fanning the curiosity of the king who makes his biographer in 1744. But mocking the spirit of Voltaire will earn him his disgrace. In 1758 he bought an estate at Ferney (near Geneva). There he discovered a passion for building a new society. He set his field, then the entire region, he built houses, made cultivate fields, livestock development, rises a few industries (watch and silk stockings) and brings prosperity to the region. Voltaire in his lifetime became a myth and in 1778 for his great return to Paris, he received a cheering crowd and members of the French Academy who are paying their tribute. Voltaire died May 30, 1778 in Paris. A few months before his death he wrote to his secretary: "I die adoring God, loving my friends, do not hate my enemies, detesting superstition." Despite these words of peace and wisdom, Voltaire is considered one of the architects of the French Revolution. Voltaire's ashes are also transferred to the Pantheon July 11, 1971.
