BIOGRAPHY :
François Cavanna was born on 22 February 1923 in Nogent-sur-Marne (France) of an Italian father and a mother Nivernais. Child he eats all that is written and is nourished by these words he admires, learns and stores. During the war he was deported to Germany under the Compulsory Work Service (STO), where he will meet the love of his life, a Russian named Maria that he will discover its culture. At the end of hostilities, François Cavanna returned to France where he will fight alone (he lost track of Maria during the collapse of Germany) in a troubled France. He lives by placing his cartoons in the press and that's how it will meet his friend George Bernier alias Professor Choron, with whom he will mount the beast and journal méchant "Hara-Kiri in 1960.

The satirical newspaper revolutionizing France and twice will be banned for sale in 1961 and 1965. François Cavanna began in the early seventies in a new "Charlie-Hebdo, which is known also a success. In 2009, François Cavanna still has the rights to the title Charlie-Hebdo and writes regular columns in this magazine.
